PROMOTING PUBLIC SAFETY
Driving out crime by shutting down over 40 drug houses, installing speed bumps in troublesome areas and participating in over 60 neighborhood walks. Also worked with local commercial corridors to improve street lighting.
CREATING JOB OPPORTUNITIES
To address the dire need for employment opportunities, created the Clean Summer Job Initiative – which provided over 200 summer employment for youth; supported the development of new businesses that creating local jobs; and supported efforts to connect residents to employment opportunities throughout the Milwaukee region. Supported the Compete Milwaukee Transitional Jobs Program, providing 135 jobs to low income residents of the 15th District.
Worked with local Business Improvement Districts and business service providers to support local entrepreneurs, particularly in; identifying sources of capital and viable commercial space; pursuing government and private sector contracts; and developing partnerships in emerging and growth industries.
IMPROVING HOME-OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Created the R.I.C.H. program (Re-investing In City Homes) to support and promote home-ownership in the 15th District. Initiated the $1 lot program – City sold over 157 lots in the 15th District. Supported the $1 million rental rehab program.
STIMULATING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Initiated the development of new economic development plans for several commercial districts. Attracted over $24 million of new investment to the 15th District. Sold over 200 residential and commercial properties to investors and home-owners.
Promoted the improvement of several streets including; North Avenue, Lloyd Street, Locust Street, and parts of Center Street; created six new parks; rebuilt the Lisbon Avenue Bridge and the North Avenue Bridge; and created the invasive weed program to beautify the District.
